So it Starts!

It's my 12th day in the voyage of a lifetime! SEMESTER AT SEA!

11 countries in 104 days!

(I haven't written in a while, but I have alot to say so I will try to make this short.)

My adventure starts: (Depart 1-12-11)

After three full days on sea, we arrived to our first port, the island of Dominica. The first day I went snorkeling in Champagne Reef. IT WAS AMAZING! It was like a dream!

Champagne Reef is one of the top five diving destinations in the world, it is known for the tiny crystal bubble that continuously rise from the sea floor, which makes it look like your swimming in a glass of champagne. I also saw the remains of a 17th century Spanish shipwreck.

Later on that night, we celebrated our first night in port by dancing the night away in the Dominican rain at a local bar. It was beautiful, we were all excited  Kulubi is the local Dominican beer, it was great. :)

It was a perfect start to a magnificent journey

After a day and half in Dominica, we sailed toward to Amazon River to Manuas, Brazil!!

THEN THREE DAYS OF HORRIBLE SEASICKNESS...lots of ginger was involved.

The MV Explorer arrived at the river basin of the Amazon River at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday the 19th.

Manaus is about 1,000 miles inland, so it took us three days to get to Manaus from the ocean.
I will be in Manaus for five days!

Today, the first day in port, I went to an orphanage to play with the kids.

ALSO today, the first day out in Manaus I get robbed! My camera ripped right out of my hand at 4:00 in the afternoon. Not a good way to start the second port. I was with a group of seven people and someone decided to rob ME! On top of that, my "rainboots" lose its bottoms when I'm out night-time exploring/alligator spotting in the Amazon jungle.

BUT I can't complain because today was AMAZING!!! After I got back from the orphanage, we went city exploring, where we ate Brazilian meat right off the streets.
Then later on that night, me and some fabulous chicas went on a night-time jungle exploring/alligator spotting excurtion and I got to hold a live Caiman (Amazonian alligator). IT WAS GREAT! The stars and moon were breathtaking in the Amazonian jungle.

I can't even explain how surreal it was. I can't explain how surreal this trip is becoming!

Ciao!

I will be sending photos later.

A photo my uncle took when he backpacked in Japan in the 80's, from the same camera he gave me. I will be going to Japan in three months.
